Lexicon: Alphabet, numbers, family and personal relationships, professions, hours, days of the week, leisure activities, food and ingredients, city, weather, adjectives to describe people, travel (transport, accommodation, luggage), clothing.

General objectives:

  • Understand and use very common everyday expressions and simple phrases aimed at meeting basic needs (for example: introducing oneself, ordering food, asking for directions, etc.).
  • Introduce oneself and others, and ask and answer questions about personal information such as place of residence, occupations, likes, or family.
  • Interact at a basic level as long as the interlocutor speaks slowly, clearly, and is willing to cooperate.
  • Develop the ability to recognize simple grammatical structures and basic vocabulary related to immediate and everyday topics.
  • Familiarize oneself with basic cultural aspects of the Hispanic world, such as greetings, daily customs, and simple social norms.

Methodological approach

At this level, students are taking their first steps in learning Spanish. They have a very basic command of the language, so activities should allow them to communicate in simple everyday situations without requiring excessive improvisation. The teacher should guide the communicative process in a structured and clear way.

Recommended methodological strategies:

Question deck:
Students create simple questions and answers on specific topics (for example: typical foods, greetings, or daily routines). The teacher reviews and adapts the questions. Afterwards, various activities are carried out: competitions, reading aloud, exchanging questions among classmates, etc. This allows students to practice basic structures in a controlled manner.

Role-plays:
Very simple everyday situations are proposed (going to a store, introducing oneself, asking for information), and students prepare short dialogues in writing, which they then perform in class. This promotes both oral and written expression and enables them to cope in basic communicative contexts.

Vocabulary games and activities:
Working with fundamental vocabulary is a priority at this level. Techniques such as brainstorming are used so that students can share words they already know or find familiar. This fosters collaborative learning from the start and helps students gain confidence in their learning process.

Assessment criteria:

Listening comprehension

  • Identifies basic information in announcements, instructions, and slow, clear conversations.

  • Recognizes greetings, prices, schedules, and personal information in everyday contexts.

Reading comprehension

  • Understands very short texts (posters, simple emails, forms).

  • Locates concrete and predictable information in familiar materials.

Oral expression and interaction

  • Uses simple and memorized phrases to introduce oneself and answer personal questions.

  • Participates in short, controlled exchanges on familiar topics.

Written expression

  • Writes simple, connected sentences using basic structures (introductions, routines, very simple descriptions).

  • Uses limited vocabulary, with errors that do not hinder comprehension.

Mediation and strategies

  • Asks for help or repeats when they do not understand.

  • Uses gestures or basic resources to mediate between languages or clarify meanings.

  • Consolidate the use of basic grammatical structures and expand functional vocabulary related to daily activities, leisure, travel, and social interactions.

  • Recognize basic cultural differences between their own culture and the Hispanic culture (schedules, eating habits, celebrations, etc.).

Methodological Approach

At the A2 level, students already handle basic Spanish structures and can operate in more varied situations, though still within everyday contexts. Activities continue to be guided, but a greater degree of autonomy is allowed.

Recommended Methodological Strategies

Question deck:
Similar to A1, but expanding topics (leisure habits, city descriptions, simple past experiences). Activities become more participatory, and the teacher encourages students to create their own questions without excessive correction.

Role-plays:
Contexts are expanded: requesting information at a tourist office, making a reservation, describing a simple medical problem, etc. The goal is for students to use a wider vocabulary and slightly more complex grammatical structures.

Vocabulary games and activities:
At A2, thematic vocabulary (travel, food, leisure activities) is reinforced, and more structured games (hangman, crosswords, memory games, etc.) are introduced to help consolidate new terms and expressions.

Assessment Criteria

Listening Comprehension

  • Understand frequently used phrases and expressions (in contexts such as shopping, directions, family, work).

Contents:

Communication: Talking about the past, expressing usual actions, describing past situations, narrating facts and biographies, recounting personal experiences, expressing the duration of an action initiated in the past and still in force, expressing causes and probabilities, describing places and cultural aspects, expressing moods and impressions about a person, making comparisons, expressing wishes and future plans, sequencing future activities, asking for the veracity of information, Talk about personal relationships and be interested in someone’s life.

Grammar: Uses of the past (perfect, imperfect, undefined and pluscuamperfect), present of subjunctive for desires, probability periphrase (must/ have that + infinitive), verbs with preposition, verbs expressing change of mood, uses of “being” with personality adjectives, time markers (a day ago, usually…), discursive connectors (when, then, then, why, how), prepositions to narrate facts of the past, quantifiers (too much, enough, something, a little, nothing), exclamatory phrases (what + noun, how much/how + verb, hopefully), comparative constructions and relative superlative.

Lexicon: Personality and moods, expressions of aptitude, time sequences, travel and cultural aspects, discursive connectors, personal relationships, vocabulary for relating experiences and biographies, expressions for making comparisons, Congratulations and social wishes.

General Objectives

  • Understand the main points of clear oral and written texts in standard language, covering familiar topics such as work, school, leisure, or daily life.
  • Handle situations effectively that may arise during travel in Spanish-speaking countries.
  • Produce simple and coherent discourse on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
  • Narrate experiences, describe events, express opinions, briefly justify plans or intentions, and argue about everyday topics.
  • Deepen knowledge of more complex cultural aspects of the Hispanic world (forms of courtesy, work habits, cultural traditions, etc.).
  • Expand grammatical and lexical competence, allowing more autonomous and flexible communication in different contexts.

Methodological Approach

At this level, students are already able to participate in most everyday communicative situations and begin to face more formal or abstract contexts. The methodological approach prioritizes the development of communicative autonomy, argumentative skills, and linguistic reflection.

Recommended Methodological Strategies

Brainstorming:
The teacher or the students propose a topic, and everyone contributes ideas, which are then collected and organized in a shared scheme. This activity stimulates opinion expression and critical thinking in the target language.

Expert Groups:
Students are divided into small groups to discuss different aspects of a topic. They then reorganize into new groups where each student must explain what they previously learned to the new group members, promoting comprehension and oral expression.

Reading and Text Analysis:
Students work with texts that require not only literal comprehension but also interpretation and analysis. Morphology, syntax, and other more complex linguistic aspects are addressed.

Oral Presentations:
Students prepare presentations on topics of interest and present them to their classmates, using audiovisual resources if desired. This activity develops the ability to structure ideas, argue, answer questions, and improves confidence in using Spanish.

Integration of Previous Activities:
Activities from previous levels (games, role-plays, guided questions) continue to be useful, adapted to the greater lexical and communicative complexity required at B1. Learning remains active and participatory, maintaining the playful component.

Assessment Criteria

Listening Comprehension

  • Understand the main points of clear conversations on familiar topics (work, leisure, travel).

  • Extract specific information from longer audio recordings, even with some noise or different accents.

Reading Comprehension

  • Understand texts written in standard language (personal letters, simple news articles, descriptions).

  • Extract main ideas, relevant details, and recognize the communicative intent.

Oral Expression and Interaction

  • Interact with some fluency and spontaneity in familiar situations.

  • Argue, express opinions, and respond with well-structured sentences, though still with lexical or grammatical limitations.

Written Expression

  • Write texts with logical structure: narratives, descriptions, opinions.

  • Use a variety of connectors, appropriate vocabulary, and tense structures with reasonable accuracy.

Mediation and Strategies

  • Explain oral or written content in their own words.

  • Select relevant information to help others understand texts or ideas.
